Following in the footsteps of sister site Net-a-Porter, luxury e-tailer Mr Porter has announced the launch of a dedicated sportswear platform.

The new site, which has been dubbed Mr.Porter Sport, will be available through Mr.Porter.com and is set to launch April 28. The special sportswear platform will offer over 150 products from 25 brands, which have been divided into nine separate categories including running, tennis, golf, swimming and training.

We've always dabbled in sport to a certain extent, thinking of the broader lifestyle of our customers, and reaction to that was strong," said Toby Bateman, Mr Porter’s buying director to the Wall Street Journal.

In addition to offering well-known labels which already have a presence on Mr Porter, like Nike, Lacoste and Sperry, ten new specialist brands have been added to the remit such as cycling brand Castelli, outdoor label Arc'teryx and jogging brand Newton Running.

The new platform's assortment has been selected by Mr Porter's current buying team, under the guidance of Bateman, with focus on the performance of the items. The luxury retailer will mostly expand its current categories later in the year to include other sports such as skiing and surfing.
