Online retailer Asos has opened applications for the second group to apply to the Assured Skills Academy Tech training programme in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Tech Hub is due to open in early 2022 and the ten-week programme aims to provide its participants with a Microsoft Accreditation and the following training: agile (software development), Microsoft Azure, business skills and data fundamentals.

The application is open to all those interested, there are no qualifications required. However, the programme is suited for someone from a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) background or someone who is interested or has experience in the tech industry.

Upon completion of the training, participants will have the opportunity to join Asos’ team.

Economy Minister Gordon Lyons MLA said in a statement: “The development of the new Belfast ‘Tech Hub’ and the creation of over 180 jobs represent a significant investment in Northern Ireland by the company. In return, our talent base will provide Asos with the high-quality engineering resources it needs to achieve its international growth plans.

“Once in place, the new jobs will contribute almost 6.5 million pounds in additional salaries to the local economy. Of the new roles, 130 will participate in my Department’s pre-employment Assured Skills training programme which will offer the company a pipeline of skilled individuals over the next three years.”

Roisin McCormack, a participant from the first Assured Skills Academy, added: “Asos’ Assured Skills Academy has provided me with the opportunity to further develop my skill set within a well-structured, encouraging and friendly atmosphere that makes learning more enjoyable.

“The opportunity to network with current ASOS employees was extremely beneficial and provided great insight into the company's goals and values. This has been one of the most challenging yet enjoyable educational experiences I’ve had to date.”

The second group will begin at the end of April 2022 and the first group will graduate mid-March 2022 from the training programme.
