IED Barcelona Design School students celebrated their end-of-the-year fashion show with a total of 25 collections hosted in one of the most emblematic backdrops of the city: Casa Vicens. Students from the Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design and the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design present their final degree collections.

According to the university they chose Casa Vicens as a setting because it finds a parallel between the architecture and the proposals of the recent graduates: experimentation and creativity.

“Casa Vicens is the prelude to the world-famous work of the famous Catalan architect. Here he poured all his talent, his references, his learning, his vision... just like our students in their first collections," explains Alessandro Manetti, CEO of IED in Spain.

During the graduation show the winners of the Fashioners of the World awards were also announced. “Visit España” [“Visit Spain”], by Laura Chafer, won the award for Best Collection. Her collection, student of the Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design, captivated the jury with its vitality, colors and finishes. “Despite the situation, the optimism shown in the collection, the desire of the young students to go out and live intensely, is a welcome surprise”, highlighted Lynn Yeager, Editor of Vogue.com.

Inspired by the decade of the 60’s and the tourist boom that the country experienced, Chafer used vibrant colors, fitted silhouettes and geometric prints, taking on the contrast between the past and modernity through tight-knit dresses, leather bras, neoprene jumpsuits, trench coats and floral-print coats.

The award for Best Fashion Film went to Luciana Cabrera for her film called Rituals. In the final project of her degree in Styling and Fashion Communication, the student wanted to delve visually into concepts such as the duality of personality, the distortion of reality due to ego and collective thinking.

“Pop Porn” by Giaco di Paolo won the Award for Best Shooting. This project by the Fashion Design student is inspired by pop culture and was tackled from an intimate and activist perspective that draws on the journey of discovery of the queer world and theories on sexuality and gender.
