Teen Vogue has hired Alexi McCammond as its new editor-in-chief. McCammond is best known as a national political reporter who covered the campaign of President Joe Biden in 2019 and 2020 for Axios. McCammond is also an NBC and MSNBC contributor. She succeeds Lindsay People Wagner who left Teen Vogue to become editor-in-chief of The Cut.

McCammond’s new position is a sign that Teen Vogue’s parent company, Condé Nast, values the political perspective the publication has brought, and the political coverage has done wonders for the websites traffic. During the tenure of editor-in-chief Elaine Welteroth, Teen Vogue amped up its politics coverage, which resulted in huge increases to the website’s traffic.

“[McCammond’s] interest in fashion, wellness and important issues in the lives of the Teen Vogue audience and broad knowledge of business leaders, elected officials, influencers, photographers and filmmakers is unrivaled,” said Anna Wintour, Condé Nast’s chief content officer and the editor in chief of American Vogue, in a statement.

At just 27 years old, McCammond has been able to make an impressive name for herself as a journalist. Prior to joining Axios, she was a news editor at Bustle and a freelance reporter for Cosmopolitan. The National Association of Black Journalist named her emerging journalist of the year in 2019.

“I’m looking forward to working with the team to build a unique community of ambitious, curious and fashion-forward young leaders and help lift their voices so they can become our next great leaders, thinkers and artists,” she said in a statement.
