Aeropostale Q3 net sales down 20 percent

For the third quarter of fiscal 2015, net sales at Aeropostale decreased 20 percent to 363.3 million dollars, from 452.9 million dollars in the year ago period. Comparable sales, including the e-commerce channel, for the third quarter decreased 10 percent compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2014.

Commenting on the results, Julian R. Geiger, Chief Executive Officer, said, “Our results for the quarter led to an adjusted operating loss that was within our original guidance range and that demonstrated a 13 million dollars improvement versus last year. While we are disappointed with our sales performance, we learned a great deal from our first quarter under our new merchandising strategy and intend to build upon the areas of progress and improve our business further.”

Q3 performance in negative

The company reported a net loss of 26.4 million dollars, or 0.33 dollar per diluted share compared to a net loss of 52.3 million dollars, or 0.66 dollar per diluted share last year. The company reported an operating loss of 23.1 million dollars versus 54.1 million dollars in the third quarter of fiscal 2014.

The company closed one Aéropostale and one P.S. from Aéropostale store during the quarter. For the third quarter, the company invested 5.4 million dollars in planned capital expenditures.

Fourth quarter outlook

For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, the company expects operating losses in the range of 0.0 dollar to 10 million dollars, which translates to a net loss in the range of 0.04 dollar to 0.17 dollar per diluted share.
