Terry Duddy, the non-exec director of property development company Hammerson, is to leave the company with immediate effect, and will join Debenhams as interim chairman.

Hammerson said the departure was mutually agreed with Duddy, who previously held roles as chief executive of Argos and as chairman of RetailTrust. Hammerson also announced that Gwyn Burr has been appointed as senior independent director with immediate effect.

A search has begun for a new non-executive director.
