John Lewis posts 3.4 percent growth in weekly fashion sales

Total sales at John Lewis for the week ending May 26, 2018 were up 3.4 percent on last year, driven by customers buying products for the bank holiday weekend, and taking advantage of promotions and price matching those of competitors. Fashion sales were up 3.4 percent during the week under review.

John Lewis said, womenswear accessories had a good week with sales up 12.2 percent and company-owned brand womenswear fashion sales were up 2.2 percent. Sales of menswear rose 9.9 percent, with summer accessories having its strongest week so far this year with sales up 28 percent, while beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales were up 3.7 percent.

Electrical and home technology sales were up 5.6 percent. The company said, promotions contributed positively to communications technology products increasing sales by 8.6 percent compared to the same week last year. Electrical products were also up due to strong demand for vacuum cleaners and TVs.

Home sales were up 0.9 percent, gifts, cook and dine sales were up 5.5 percent, with sales of summer poolside collection up 40 percent. Customers continued to buy outdoor furniture with sales up 14 percent compared to last year.
