Total sales for the week ending March 2, 2019 were up 11.4 percent on the same week last year at John Lewis. Fashion sales, the company added were up 23.3 percent with new season clothing up 17 percent as customers refreshed their wardrobes due to the unseasonably warm weather, while price matching competitors through “Never Knowingly Undersold” promise drove beauty sales up 37.8 percent.

The company said in a statement that there was positive sales momentum across all categories, driven by the warmer weather, price matching competitors through its “Never Knowingly Undersold” promise and annualising a slower week of sales due to last year’s “Beast from the East”.

Home sales were up 5.2 percent, mother’s day gifting sales were up 22 percent and bath shop product sales grew by 15.9 percent on the same week last year, while demand for new furniture grew sales in this category by 12 percent. Electrical and home technology sales were up 5 percent, sales of wearable technology products were up 10 percent and headphone sales grew 39 percent.
