John Lewis weekly fashion sales decline 1.8 percent

John Lewis, for the week ending September 30, 2017, said that total sales for the week were 86.3 million pounds (114 million dollars), down 1.9 percent on last year. Fashion sales were down 1.8 percent, however, the company added that autumn/winter clothing performed well with Modern Rarity a standout for the week.

Beauty had a good week, with total sales up 7 percent, while fragrance reported an uplift of 14.2 percent. Home sales were down 5.1 percent, however, the newly opened Christmas Villlages performed strongly and Halloween products were up 24 percent on last year.

Electricals and home technology sales were up 1.4 percent, driven by strong sales in communication technology.
