John Lewis weekly fashion sales drop 6.9 percent

Total sales for the week ended October 21, 2017, John Lewis said were 86.7 million pounds (114 million dollars), down 4.7 percent on last year due to the continuing mild weather. Fashion sales declined 6.9 percent overall. John Lewis also announced opening of its 49th store in Oxford this week.

Sales of beauty, wellbeing and leisure products saw a sales rise of 0.5 percent. The company added that sales of jewellery, lingerie and company-owned-brand womenswear ranges also grew. Home sales were down 6.6 percent on the same week last year. Lighting performed well with sales up 5 percent due to promotion and price matching a competitor's promotion.

Electrical and home technology sales were down 0.5 percent, while sales of communications technology products such as smartphones, computers and iPads increased.
