John Lewis: Weekly fashion sales witness a marginal improvement

Total sales at John Lewis, the company said in a statement, for the week ending February 16, 2019, were down 3.4 percent on the same week last year. However, fashion sales for the week, were up 1.2 percent.

The company said, price matching competitor beauty promotions through its commitment to being never knowingly being undersold drove beauty, wellbeing and leisure by 7.2 percent. Sales of women’s accessories were up 10.9 percent driven by demand for premium brands.

Home sales were down 7.6 percent; with sales of Valentine’s Day products rising by 27 percent on last year and upholstery sales were up 39 percent. Electrical and home technology sales were down 3.1 percent.
