London - Over the years many fashion brands have introduced all sorts of apparel which promise to help consumers slim down and tone up with wear - only to be left grasping for straws when the apparel failed to deliver its promised results. However, there is a new brand on the block which claims to help consumers burn up to 1,000 calories a day just by wearing a vest or a pair of insoles: Thin Ice.

Created by personal trainer and former NCAA Athlete, Adam Paulin, Thin Ice uses modern technology to 'hack' its wearers metabolism in order to help them lose weight. Arguably offering the world's first technologically-enhanced weight-loss apparel, Paulin and his team have developed a a lightweight vest and shoe insole which harness the power of cold temperatures for weight-loss. Although the insole and vest are both still in the prototype stage, Paulin is adamant that just by wearing either product for a day, wearers will burn between 500 to 1,000 calories a day, and lists several scientific studies to back up his research.

Thin Ice: the world's first technological weight-loss apparel brand

"The Thin Ice insole and vest target regions of your body with high concentrations of thermoreceptors. These neural receptors alert your body to the presence of cold, triggering a metabolic response that generates heat in your core," explains Paulin on the Thin Ice Indiegogo campaign page, where he is seeking to raise 15,000 dollars to begin the manufacturing process. "As the core’s blood warms, it then must be pumped all the way to the extremities. The best part of this process is that your body does all this calorie-expensive work automatically without you even having to think about it."

The technology behind the Thin Ice vest and insole is built around specialized Peltier cooling chips which cool specific areas of the body, rather than the entire under foot or torso. The chips are powered by a small, unobtrusive, rechargeable battery, which is removable and can be replaced if needed. Wearers of the weight-loss vest and insole will not be left feeling cold and numb all day as only targeted areas will be kept cool, and will not experience shivering, as the bodily pathway which heat's the body's internal core is not linked to shivering. The vest and insole temperatures can also be controlled via a mobile app, so the wearer can decide what the optimal temperature for them is.

Both the vest and insole are available in a series of sizes for women and men for pre-order via Indiegogo for the cool price of 95 dollars. Customers keen to tap into the system full potential can pre-order both items for 145 dollars. Although some consumers may err on the side of caution when it comes to clothing promising weight-loss, it remains a hot topic within the industry. The Thin Ice campaign, which runs for another 4 days, has already raised 393,069 dollars, suggesting consumers are still open to buying into slimming clothing.
