Cato reports 2 percent rise in May sales

The Cato Corporation reported sales of 88.5 million dollars for the four weeks ended May 30, 2015, a 2 percent increase versus sales of 86.4 million dollars for the four weeks ended May 31, 2014. Same-store sales for the month were flat to last year.

Sales for the seventeen weeks ended May 30, 2015 were 370.1 million dollars, which were slightly higher than sales of 368.9 million dollars for the seventeen weeks ended May 31, 2014. The company's year-to-date same-store sales decreased 2 percent.

"May same store sales continued at our recent trend over the last several months at flat to last year," stated John Cato, the company's Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer.

During the month of May, the company opened one and relocated three stores. As of May 30, 2015, it operated 1,353 stores in 32 states, compared to 1,325 stores in 32 states as of May 31, 2014.
