In anticipation for the holidays, Nordstrom, Inc. is hiring on a lot of seasonal employees. The Seattle-based department store will be hiring approximately 11,400 holiday workers inclusive at its locations and Nordstrom Rack stores; which is a little less than its seasonal hiring last year.

According to a statement released by the company a year ago, the company seems to have downsized how many seasonal employees it will be hiring by 400. In 2015, the company was looking for approximately 11,800 seasonal employees for its stores and online distribution centers. For the company, Nordstrom was seeking 10,000 employees for in-store locations and only 1,600 people for its ecommerce business. The increase in online workers could be due to the fact that Nordstrom’s online sales are progressing. As malls have been declining for some time now, it’s likely that this could play a factor in the company’s decision to hire less than last year. Currently, there has been no statement released about why the number of seasonal employees has decreased.

For the upcoming retail holiday season, a lot of retailers end up hiring on mass seasonal workers in order to provide a more seamless customer experience for shoppers. For this year, Nordstrom is hiring approximately 9,500 people for sales and stock positions throughout 123 Nordstrom locations and 213 Nordstrom Rack locations in the U.S. In addition, another 1,900 employees will be hired at fulfillment centers for Nordstrom’s online shops. The company will hire on more seasonal employees to help at Nordstrom.com, Nordstromrack.com, HauteLook and Trunk Club. The distribution centers are spread across the U.S. including cities such as Portland, Oregon; Ontario, California; Newark, California and more.
