Walmart has announced it has partnered with Shopify Inc. to make the Walmart Marketplace available to Shopify's one million sellers. Shopify sellers merchandise will now be available on Walmart.com.

This is the first time Walmart has partnered with an e-commerce platform to allow small and medium sized businesses to sell through its marketplace. Walmart customers will also enjoy the benefits of a larger assortment of products thanks to Shopify's sellers.

“By partnering with Walmart, we will be able to connect merchants with consumers across America within a trusted marketplace, helping merchants drive new sales while consumers discover new products they’ll love,” said Satish Kanwar, Shopify’s vice president of product, to Smarteranalyst. “Our expertise in multi-channel commerce, combined with Walmart’s reach, will allow us to create better online shopping experiences for merchants and consumers alike.”

Walmart.com has over 120 million visitors per month, making it one of the most highly trafficked ecommerce sites in America. By the end of 2020, 1200 Shopify merchants are projected to be able to sell through Walmart.

While many other retailers are struggling, Walmart is one of the few companies performing well. The company reported a 74 percent increase in e-commerce sales last quarter. As of Monday, Shopify shares are up 7.1 percent and Walmart shares rose 1 percent to 118 dollars and 34 cents.
