As much as the 'selfie' has changed the way a new generation perceives and consumers fashion, it is really the digital era that has changed how the fashion industry communicates.

Digital technology has radically changed the fashion landscape, from the way it is produced, designed and presented. Just last week a new app was launched that allows clients to book models with one Tinder-like swipe of an iPhone screen.

To showcase the developments of the digital era, a new exhibition coming to Fashion Space Gallery at London College of Fashion will examine the influence that technology has had on fashion. Opening in September, #DigitalDisturbances will bring together seven designers and creative teams whose work explores the interaction between the digital and the material.

In the digital sphere, information is both lost and gained

Specificailly, the exhibition will provide a lens onto the often strange effects that emerge from interactions across material and virtual platforms – information both lost and gained in the process of translation.

The artists' work can be traced across the surfaces of garments, through the realisation of new silhouettes, in the remixing of images and bodies in photography and film, and into the nuances of identity projected into social and commercial spaces.

The line-up includes Russian menswear designer Tigran Avetisyan and artist Bart Hess, ANREALAGE, Flora Miranda, POSTmatter, Simone C. Niquille and Alexander Porter, and Texturall. On display will be interactive film installations, motion sensor fabric and optical illusions.

September will be in interesting month in London, with several fashion-focused exhibitions, including the highly anticipated Chanel, which will trace the house’s Coco Chanel origins to its Karl Lagerfeld designed present day.

#DigitalDisturbances is curated by Leanne Wierzba and will be open September 11 - December 12 2015. See www.fashionspacegallery.com for further details.
