Converse had teamed with the New York-based, women-led brand MadeMe for an empowering new collection.

The summer line, features apparel and footwear designed by women for women. It’s also a celebration of individuality and defying convention. Much of the looks are infused with the spirit of the feminist punk movement of the ‘90s known as Riot grrrl.

Heavily influenced by the rich history of cultural defiance that New York holds, the edgy brand aims to represent the spirit of downtown youth while catering to “A cool girl. Independent, who will take risks and not worry about what everyone else is wearing or doing,” said creative director Erin Magee in a press release. “It’s a girl who is attracted to authenticity and wants to explore street, rave, queer and 90s subculture.”

The centerpiece in the new collection is the colorful One Star sneaker. Accented with graphics, premium Napa leather, canvas lining and widened cotton laces - the look is plucked from the ‘90s club scene.

Also crafted with a nostalgic hand, are loose-fitting streetwear items - ranging from a Hooded Track Jacket and an Oversized Track Pant. Other pieces like the Super Mini Backpack offer a unique extension of the time period.

Converse x MadeMe is available on Converse.com and at selected retailers from May 24.
