Large scale American bridal store chain David’s Bridal confirmed recent suspicions of bankruptcy this week. On Thursday, the retailer announced that it is planning to file for Chapter 11 in the “near future.” It also shared that it has reached an agreement with its lenders that will reduce debt by more than 400 million dollars.

The debts accrued by David’s Bridal are supposedly due to changing consumer tastes within the wedding industry. Millennials are now waiting longer to get married, and when they are ready for a wedding, they are looking for non traditional styles. Online retailers such as Reformation and Revolve have started offering less expensive and more modern alternatives to traditional gowns, thus taking business from traditional bridal retailers like David’s Bridal.

The bridal store chain has also shared that it will continue operation as usual throughout its bankruptcy, assuring that current and future orders and appointments will not be impacted. "David's Bridal will continue to lead our category with an unbeatable selection of beautiful, high-quality wedding and special occasion dresses in a wide range of styles, colors, sizes, and prices," chief executive officer Scott Key said in a statement.
