JS Shoes wins excellence in 3D knit design

Los Angeles - After launching from Kickstarter earlier this year, J&S Enterprises’ JS Shoes have emerged as a customizable 3D knit success. The shoes, which allows its wearers to design their individual pairs, were recently awarded at a Third Place tier at the 36th Annual International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

The premiere international awards are put on every year by the Industrial Designers Society of America. The competition is judged by renown design experts from all over. There were over 1,600 designs that participated in the competition for this year. JS Shoes became a Bronze winner for their innovative designs because of their customization, and their 3-dimensional shape. Judging criteria is based on design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the client, social impact, and appropriate aesthetics. By meeting all of these criteria, JS Shoes was able to secure a spot as a Bronze winner.

JS Shoes wins Bronze at International Design Excellence Awards

JS Shoes allows its customers to not only buy a pair of shoes but to customize and design the pair of shoes themselves. This allows for the customers to have one-of-a-kind pairs where they can choose the color, design, size, and more. “We wanted our customers to enjoy the benefits of a customized shoe without the high prices that large shoe manufacturers have dictated for the shoe industry,” Xiaoxi Shi, founder and creative director of the company, told WWD. The company is able to do this through its innovative designs and efficient use of materials. JS Shoes also allows for customers to buy one shoe at a time, in case they want the option of mix-matching. The shoes are unisex slip-ons that are made from a lightweight material. The company also focuses on manufacturing in a way that does not result in waste. Each pair retails currently for 89 dollars off of the brand’s Kickstarter website.

Benefits of winning IDEA include international press and exposure, trophies, a copy of Yearbook of Design Excellence, a change to be featured in a 2016 winners showcase and more. As a Bronze winner, JS Shoes receives some of these benefits based on their custom shoe designs. Although not confirmed, it could be possible that JS Shoes is exhibited at the Henry Ford Museum in July, as the top IDEA winners will be on display.
