London - Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel, has selected his hometown of Hamburg in Germany to serve as the backdrop for Chanel’s next show for its Métier’s d’Art '17/18 collection. The German designer has selected the city’s new philharmonic building as the venue for his next show for Chanel, set to take place on December 6.

"After Salzburg, Rome and Ritz Paris, Chanel will present its next Métiers d’art collection in Hamburg, Germany," wrote the company in a statement to FashionUnited. "The show will take place at the spectacular Elbphilharmonie, a true work of architectural prowess conceived by Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, and situated in the heart of the Port of Hamburg."

Designed by architect Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, the building is known for its wave-like rooftop and was inspired by the ancient theatre at Delphi, tents as well as sports stadiums around the world. Named the Elbphilharmonie, the building officially opened its doors this January and is located within the city’s old port. The new glass philharmonic sits on top of an existing warehouse, which was built in 1875.

Lagerfeld is known to select unique venues or locations for Chanel’s pre-autumn ready-to-wear shows, presenting Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection in numerous cities over the years, such as Rome, Shanghai and Edinburgh. The designer uses the show locations to tell a story and his return to Hamburg sees Lagerfeld coming home more than 65 years after he left to study in Paris, France, coming in full circle.
