Fashion

Each season, the Trendstop experts travel all over the world to the most influential fashion trade shows in the industry calendar, analysing hundreds of inspiring and commercially relevant trends coming through in collections. In Europe, Paris is one of the key cities to host an array of leading trade fairs, so Trendstop recently dispatched a team of trend-spotters to report on all the action as it happened at the Fall/Winter 2016-17 menswear editions of Capsule, Tranoi and MAN. This time around, Capsule's contemporary offering emphasised quality, construction and quirky detailing, as Tranoi's downsized edit was split across two venues with a focus on modern streetwear. Meanwhile, the curated collections at MAN revealed fresh takes on material innovation with a wide range of textural qualities. Hot off the trade show floor, this week FashionUnited readers can discover three directional new trends emerging in F/W16-17 menswear.

Urban Military

This winter, we see military-inspired styles updated for the city for a new twist on utility looks. Sporty outerwear combines dark wash denim with khaki green blocking, as accessories go functional in the form of boxy buckled backpacks. In footwear, slip-on styles incorporate camou print soles.

Cyber Formal

Men's formalwear is upgraded for the digital age, revealing a focus on technical materials and performance detailing. Tailored apparel is informed by fabrics like nylon and padding, complete with zip fastenings and multi-pockets. Accessories combine futuristic looks with a sartorial twist, as seen with industrial timepieces.

Japanese Workwear

Also seen at the Fall/Winter trade shows in Berlin, utility-inspired menswear styles reference traditional Japanese workwear. Drawing on denim aesthetics, key apparel shapes include simple longline coats, which work well with mandarin collar shirting. Floppy rounded felt hats complete the look.
