Online marketplace eBay has named former Sainsbury’s executive Rhian Bartlett as its new senior director of soft goods in the UK.

Bartlett who was business unit director for the grocery non-food division at Sainsbury’s, will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategy to drive growth for eBay’s soft categories, including clothing, home and garden.

Prior to Sainsbury’s, Bartlett held various roles within other major retailers, including Safeway, Superdrug and Homebase.

Tanya Lawler, vice president eBay in the UK, said: “eBay has been changing the way people shop for the past two decades, and we remain committed to blurring the lines between online and offline shopping, with initiatives such as our Click & Collect programme in partnership with Argos.

“Rhian’s deep expertise across both physical and digital retail, along with experience in key categories, makes her an exciting senior addition to the eBay team.”

Bartlett will join eBay in the spring and will report to Lawler.
