HanesBrands has announced that its current chief executive officer, Gerald W. Evans Jr, will retire at the end of fiscal year 2020. He has been with the innerwear and activewear apparel company since 1983 and was appointed as chief executive in 2016.
“Gerald has been an invaluable member of the Hanes team during his 36 years of dedicated service,” said Ronald L. Nelson, chairman of the Hanes board of directors, commented in a statement.
“Under his leadership, the company has expanded its geographic footprint, broadened its portfolio of premium brand offerings, and pioneered product, process and supply chain innovation, helping transform Hanes into the world’s largest everyday basic apparel company. We thank Gerald and appreciate his willingness to continue with the company through year end to ensure a seamless transition of leadership.”
The board of directors is currently conducting a search for Evans' successor, along with the help of executive search firm Russell Reynolds Associates.
