Reuters has reported that Amazon has closed a New York warehouse after one of its employees tested positive for coronavirus. The company said that it will prioritize selling essential goods as the global pandemic continues on, and also had plans to hire 100,000 workers to keep up with increased online shopping demand.

The workers at the New York warehouse were sent home with full pay as Amazon works to sanitize the facility. It is the first reported case of coronavirus at an American warehouse facility.

There is now potential for Amazon to close other warehouses as the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage through the United States. Just today, New York governor Andrew Cuomo ordered all non-essential employees to stay home.

Elsewhere in the world, Amazon employees are demanding that the company close warehouses for employee safety. In Saran in France workers staged a strike outside of a shipping warehouse demanding the facility close until further notice.
