British accessories and fashion company Mulberry has signed a global licensing deal with Italian Japanese distributor Onward Luxury Group to make and distribute its clothing and footwear ranges.

Mulberry's chief executive Thierry Andretta told The Daily Mail: “The categories of ready-to-wear and shoes have potential for growth in the future and are an important factor in building the lifestyle image that will help develop Mulberry internationally.

“Licensing the manufacture and co-distribution of these categories will enable us to deliver quality product, while achieving our target price range.”

Mulberry is best known for its leather handbags and has struggled to gain growth with its ready to wear business. Up until last year the company was losing sales and issued profit warnings after its former CEO attempted to make the brand more upmarket, resulting in soaring retail prices which alienated some UK customers.
