There are two types of fashion companies: those that make it, and those that don't. Tinker Tailor, the online custom clothing service, has just fallen into the category of those that don't. The company, which was the brain child of Moda Operandi co-founder Aslaug Magnusdottir, didn't turn out to be the success that people were expecting.

When the company first hit the start-up scene in 2014, it seemed poised to be very successful and a major hit with the high-fashion crowd. The company offered customers the opportunity to design their own custom clothing line, as well as customize clothing from brands like Rodarte and Alberta Ferretti. Fast Company even named Tinker Tailor one of the most innovative companies in style.

The pr only did so much to help them though, because Thursday the company officially announced their intention to close their business. Tinker Tailor's big problem was that the investors weren't biting. According to fashionista.com, the company is, "ceasing operations due to inability to secure the additional funding it needs to grow." When Tinker Tailor first launched it was one of a number of startups seeking to provide women with customizable clothing.

While a survey from Bain and Company said that 25 to 30 percent of women would be interested in customizable clothing service, the market might not have been as big for such a service as thought. Clearly something wasn't working if something that had the potential to be so successful failed. It might have just been the inability to find a good investor, but, whatever it was, the chapter on the life of Tinker Tailor is now closed.
