Los Angeles - Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has an upcoming show dedicated entirely to fashion. Entitled Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear 1715-2015, the exhibition will open this April 10 to August 21.

The exhibition will present the history of dress in menswear dating back to the eighteenth century. The clothing will accurately represent and depict men’s clothing including feminine pieces and historical garments. In preparing for the upcoming exhibition, LACMA has acquired an authentic zoot suit at a New York auction. According to Racked LA, the piece cost 78,000 dollars and was originally purchased for less than 20 dollars. The suit is reminiscent of 1930-1940’s style of dress and is an influential period in menswear fashion.

In addition to the piece, the museum is also taking pieces from previous showings. LACMA has had a permanent Reigning Men collection in the past connecting both history and high fashion. From its permanent collection, the exhibition has over 200 looks. The exhibition will use the clothing to trace the historical significance of these influences and how fashion has changed from the eighteenth century until today. The Reigning Men exhibit will officially open its doors this spring starting April.
