Seven upcoming designers where celebrated at the start of Berlin Fashion week and awarded the European Fashion Award FASH 2016. The awards, which totalled a value of 200,000 euros, where handed out on Monday evening in a ceremony organised by the non-profit organisation SDBI –Stiftung der Deutschen Bekleidungsindustrie (German Fashion Industry Foundation) at Berlin’s Neues Museum.

The award categories, which were spilt into two, revealed about this year’s theme of change. The seven winners selected by the jury are believed to be shaping this change, which ranges from online shopping, to live stream and the rise of social media. “From demonstrating the potential of purely industrial production to entirely new approaches to sustainable fashion: the creative and technical abilities of the award winners are impressive, and the creative output is fascinating,” said SDBI in a statement. “The award-winning projects focus on concepts exploring fashion’s potential, and have more in common with concept cars than clothing for everyday wear.”

The winners for the student category were as followed: Flora Sophie Taubner and Lars Dittrich, from the University of Art and Design in Halle; Julian Weth, from Academy Jak in Hamburg, and Aylin Tomta from the Bielefeld University in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
