Perry Moise, better known as Burberry Perry until this morning, has changed his name handle and has deleted all references to Burberry from his stage name. The rapper now goes by the name The Good Perry. The name change was caused by a lawsuit brought by the British luxury label who accused Moise of trademark infringement as reported by FashionUnited, yesterday July 28, 2016.

On Monday, Burberry filed a trademark infringement lawsuit in Manhattan federal court against Moise who has been using the name Burberry Perry, along with the brand's trademark check pattern and equestrian horse trademark in connection with his album and social media pages.

The company alleged that Moise is using the "fame and renown of the Burberry trademark for his own personal gain, to promote his albums, garner media attention and grow a fan base, all to the detriment of Burberry.”

While Moise declined to comment on the lawsuit, he had no problems taking to Twitter to announce his reaction to this, tweeting on Wednesday saying "“I am now the one the only thegoodperry aka TG Perry.” He also tweeted: "“I am no longer Burberry Perry.”

In a mild aside to the brand, he did tweet saying: "As for those who still want to call me Burberry Perry you can call me that no one can stop you from calling me that I love you guys so much.”

In Burberry's complaint, they also said that they have tried on numerous occasions to get Moise to stop using their name. They argued that his lyrics contain extensive use of profanity and is causing consumers to "mistakenly believe" he is affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or somehow connected to the brand.

Other claims the company made include false designation of origin and dilution of trademark. Burberry is seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction and any other relief the court deems "just and proper."

The company was not immediately available for comment regarding the name change.

In a statement when the news of the lawsuit broke, Burberry said: "As a global luxury brand, Burberry considers the protection of its intellectual property vital for the health of its business and to safeguard its customers. As such, Burberry goes to great lengths to protect its creative designs and will take all the necessary action against the abuse of Burberry trademarks.”
