Experimental, life-changing festival Burning Man took place recently in Black Rock Desert, Nevada. With over 70,000 guests in attendance, the festival celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Burners come to the location in hopes to experience art installations, observe music acts, and show off individualized fashion. In free-form self-expression, Burning Man’s fashion was raised to a new level this year. With a more industrialized feel to its style, as opposed to Coachella’s more bohemian chic flair, several guests showed off their styles in different way.

As one of the more obvious trends, vibrant hues and multi-colored fashion choices were highly prevalent throughout the 3,800 acres of the festival. In addition with wild accessories, body chains, and platform boots; these trends were universal throughout the venue.

Due to the high level of dust in the venue, guests were able to pack on the accessories to add to outfits. Trendy sunglasses were also commonplace among many festival goers.

Machina-influenced elements and metallics were popular throughout the festival, giving off a feel that was both futuristic as well as bohemian. Part of this style was in part due to the festival’s location and the weather conditions of the desert, which made the fashion choices varied greatly than that of other music festivals.

Where art and expression are at the forefront of any event, the festival is bound to create it’s own style code. Through its existence, it seems that Burning Man has created its unique fashion DNA. Through futuristic styles with mix-matched materials including metallic, leather, and fur; the festival shows off a very distinct dress code that is very much its own.

Other festivals have capitalized on their fashion trends by creating collaborations and collections. H&M and various other retailers have come up with “Coachella” collections aimed at festival attendees this year. It’s possible that soon Burning Man will start to follow suit.
