journalists and stylists are being offered the chance to win an iPod or Blackberry and have their words published professionally by fashion retailer Freemans.

The famous clothing catalogue is running a competition for UK students challenging them to design a stylish outfit for a woman in Freemans’ target demographic (late 30s to early 40s) using items from the catalogue.

Entrants have to explain their choices in a short blog article, the best of which will be published on the official Freemans blog.

The best entry will receive an ipad to assist them with their studies, with runner up prizes of two fourth generation Apple iPods and three Blackberry Curves.

Items for the summer outfit should be chosen from the spring/summer 2011 collection, which features a host of on-trend womens tops, swimsuits, maxi dresses and bikinis.

There are a number of clothing ranges to choose from on the site, from popular ranges such as Ed Hardy, Fiorelli and Ralph Lauren to boutique ranges such as Heine, Singh Madan and Vero Moda.

Competition entrants are encouraged to be as creative as possible in their designs whilst keeping the typical Freemans customer likes to wear.

Vikki Shillam from Freemans said: “Our spring/summer 2011 collection features many of this year’s key trends, such as the all-white trend, colour blocking and the 70s revival. There’s lots there to inspire creativity in fashion-loving students.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing some unique outfits, whether students choose a bikini, a maxi dress, a swimsuit or a classic women’s top with a sophisticated skirt.”

The competition aims to give students the valuable chance to have their work published professionally – something that can really stand out on their CV when they are looking for work post-university in the current competitive job market.

The grand prizes will also be of great interest to techno-savvy students who would love to get their hands on the latest gadgets, but can’t afford to do so – especially given today’s students’ financial concerns.

Freemans has already contacted major universities to ask them to publicise the competition to their students and are now spreading the word via their own website and other student and fashion magazines.

Sukhvinder Sangha from Freemans said: “We’re hoping to make this competition a big success, and perhaps unearth a few future fashion pundits in the process!”
