Los Angeles - The West Coast is known for its lax, laid-back SoCal style. In adding Australian labels to the mix, Bassike confirmed its official plan to expand growth in California over the next couple of years.

The Aussie-cult label just recently opened its newest location in Los Angeles. The new store encompasses an urban theme with a crisp, color palette mostly reflecting white decor, glass windows, and wooden fixtures. The initial essence of the store gives off a simplistic design which fits the label’s clean-cut approach on fashion. The brand chose Kelvin Ho, founder of Akin Creative, as their architect and designer for the new space. The Sydney-based architecture ensured the boutique stayed true to the owners’ Australian roots. The store boasts 1,100 square feet.

Bassike opens its first Los Angeles location

The fresh location is based in Venice, which suits the brand’s aesthetic. “The Venice community cultivates a really great blend of surf, sake, art, fashion, food and wellbeing… Bassike sits really comfortably in this time of environment,” Mary Lou Ryan, co-owner of Bassike, told Wallpaper. The store is located on Lincoln Avenue and neighbors prominent retail shops right on Abbot Kinney Boulevard. In its offerings, the brand’s apparel ranges from about 50 to 3,000 dollars in price. Clothing ranges from organic basics, denim, outerwear, dresses, swimwear, footwear, and more. The label is known for its contemporary, fashion-forward take on apparel. Most of its apparel is considered elevated, sophisticated choices including organic jersey shirts, patterned jumpsuits, cotton cover-ups and more.

This store opening marks the first of many California stores for Bassike. Confirmed to WWD, the brand has decided to move towards expanding its growth and reach in California. “We’ve been in business nearly 10 years and we felt that as a brand, we were ready to take on the international market,” Deborah Sams, designer and cofounder of the brand, told WWD. Naturally, SoCal was a specific target spot for the contemporary brand. The goal for Bassike is to open one location each year for the next couple of years. Ideally, the label will have three Los Angeles county locations and potentially one in San Francisco, according to WWD.

Australian brand Bassike talks potentially expanding into wholesale

Currently, the company is focused on marketing that sells to its customers directly through its retail locations and e-commerce site. Talks of wholesale for the company have also come into play recently, according to the trade publication. However, the decision to reach wholesale depends on how well the Venice location does, Sams told WWD. Currently, the company has under 10 locations in Australia. The company has about 75 employees currently. Bassike started in 2006 by co-founders Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan. The company launched their first collection that year and since then has continued to expand as an emerging label.
