American fashion designer Alexander Wang is the new

ambassador for The Woolmark Company’s ‘Merino Wool: No Finer Feeling’ advocacy campaign.

The designer, who has his own eponymous line and is the creative director of Balenciaga, stars in the campaign shot by Annie Leibovitz wearing a black hooded sweater made of Merino wool, while standing alongside a large Merino Ram in front of a graffiti wall.

Wang follows in the footsteps of Narciso Rodriguez in becoming an ambassador for the initiative, which aims to position “Merino wool as the fiber of choice for the world’s leading designers and brands”, and as well as starring in the campaign, the partnership will see Wang working Merino wool into his autumn/winter 2013 and 2014 collections.

“I have used Merino wool since I first started designing so collaborating with Woolmark was a natural fit for me,” said Wang. “Wool has strong environmental credentials, and it feels modern, and relevant.”

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with celebrated designer Alexander Wang whose modern sensibility and innovative designs exhibit the beauty of Merino wool,” says Stuart McCullough, CEO of Australian Wool Innovation, parent company of The Woolmark Company. “His ability to think differently embodies our ethos of exploring the boundless potential and versatility of wool in fashion designers’ creations.”
