London's Dover Street Market is now heading to New York. The avant-garde multi-brand

boutique, founded by Comme des Garcons and its founder Rei Kawakubo, is to open a seven storey, 20,000 sq ft international branch on Manhattan’s Lexington Avenue at 30th Street.

It is due to open in December 2013, Adrian Joffe, chief executive officer at Comme des Garçons International, told WWD.

The store will be located in a classical-style building that was formerly home to the New York School of Applied Design for Women and, subsequently Touro College.

In 2004, Kawakubo opened Dover Street Market in London as a multi-brand store. A Tokyo branch also opened in Ginza in March.
