Anna Wintour is joined by designers Miuccia Prada, Diane von Furstenberg and Tory

Burch on Forbes’s annual list of the 100 most powerful women in the world.

The list dominated by political figures and topped by Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany, places the American Vogue editor-in-chief and Condé Nast artistic director Anna Wintour at number 39, two places higher than last year.

Forbes lists her as one of the “most-watched” women in fashion, which this year has included the Metropolitan Museum of Art renaming its halls of fashion, including the Costume Institutes Galleries, in her honour of her fundraising efforts for the institute.

Three fashion designers were also included, Diane von Furstenberg, who took the 68th spot, Italian Miuccia Prada was ranked 75th and Tory Burch was listed at 79. Other fashion names included Brazilian Gisele Bündchen, the only model to make the list, and Sara Blakely, creator of shapewear brand Spanx.
