Under Armour, a Baltimore-based athletic clothing

manufacturer, has filed a lawsuit against Nike for the use of the “I will” phrase in its marketing.

According to reports in the U.S. media, the group, founded in 1996 by former football player Kevin Plank, filed a trademark infringement suit against Nike.

Under Armour argues that the “I will” phrase has been used as part of its marketing strategies since 1998, through the use of phrases such as “I will protect my home court” or “I will finish what I started.”

Under Armour is requesting a permanent injunction to ban Nike from using the phrase in any products, packaging and various types of marketing and is also seeking compensation.
