River Island taps Rihanna for collection

High street retailer River Island has announced that pop star

Rihanna will be designing her first clothing collection exclusively for the brand, and the capsule collection will launch in Spring 2013.

Rumours of a collaboration began earlier this year when Rihanna tweeted a photo of herself at the retailer’s HQ, and details of the singer’s collection is being keep under wraps, but it is expected to be influenced by her own style.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rihanna and to be the first fashion brand to work with her in this way. Rihanna is a style icon, from street to chic she enjoys her fashion,” said Ben Lewis River Island Chief Executive. “As soon as we started to work together we knew this was a perfect fit. Rihanna will be designing the collection and we will be sharing our fashion experience with her to develop a range her fans will love.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Rihanna added: “I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me.

“I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.”

As well as taking the step from singer to fashion designer, Rihanna is also set to feature in a new series for Sky Living, Styled to Rock, in which she will join Nicola Roberts and Henry Holland to search for the UK’s hottest new designer.
