Department store Selfridges launched its first click and collect

service last week at its Oxford Street flagship store, and plans to roll out the scheme to its remaining three stores on May 9.

The new service allows customers to shop online every day until 4 pm and collection their purchases the following day from a dedicated in-store collection point, as soon as the stores open, which the chain said that no other retailer currently offers.

As part of the retailer’s multichannel offering, customers will also be able to choose which day they would prefer to collect their purchases within seven days of ordering, and the London store will also offer 30 minutes of free parking while they collect their goods.

In a press statement the group said: “Selfridges’ outstanding new online development with Click & Collect is the first of two major expansions of Selfridges’ transactional site capabilities.

“The second, to come later this year, will see Selfridges go global and offer its famously unique and wide-ranging product mix to customers around the world.”

The retailer also announced that it has plans for a drive-thru click and collect service, which will involve the conversion of forecourt space off the side of its Oxford Street store to enable customers to collect their goods ordered online without having to leave their cars.

In addition, Selfridges is also launching international delivery for online orders to 54 countries later this year, starting with Europe, as the retailer continues to develop its multichannel offer and increase its online sales.
