There are three sectors that will see an explosion of new professions in the next ten years: technology, marketing and advertising, in addition to green jobs (jobs related to sustainability). This is one of the trends that emerged from the Young Entrepreneurs of Confcommercio survey in Rome.

Data shows that for 70 percent of the participants, the ideal job of the future is as an entrepreneur

The data showed that for 70 percent of the interviewees, the ideal job of the future is as a freelancer or as an entrepreneur, a symptom of the fact that in the new generations, the idea of self-managed work is growing more and more. Almost one in two young people (43 percent) believe that in the future, the worker will have more and more freedom to decide when, where, and how to work to promote a balance between work and private life. The idea of full smart working remains unattractive for almost all respondents.

“In the expectations of the new generations, the very sectors that Confcommercio represents will be subjected to the broadest revolution: trade and services (to people and businesses) are indicated as the first test bench for change in the work of the future, where new ones will be born more frequently professionalism and probably new businesses,” underlined Andrea Colzani, president of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confcommercio.

The short week, already present in many countries, will become more popular

More than one in four respondents (28 percent) believe that the short week, already present in many countries, will become more popular, with four days of work and three days off.

For nearly six out of ten young people in the future will often change jobs and remain in the same company for only a few years. The transformation of work methods and spaces has also undergone a strong acceleration: the future of work is hybrid for 70 percent of the participants.

The survey showed that the sectors that will most likely change the most would trade between services to people and services to businesses. According to the interviewees, those that will undergo fewer changes are catering, agriculture and transport; even if time often misrepresents the forecasts, just think how much the catering sector has innovated during the pandemic.

Furthermore, as anticipated, three sectors will see an explosion of new professions in the next ten years: technology, marketing, and advertising, in addition to green jobs (jobs related to sustainability).

Expectations towards the work of the future, therefore, go in the direction of flexibility, of the centrality to the needs and rhythms of the person. Technological innovation will help the world of work to be increasingly smart without excluding the need to work close to your team to build, in addition to a career, a positive and sharing work environment to encourage innovation and business growth.

These, in summary, are the results of the survey on the new generations carried out by the Young Entrepreneurs of Confcommercio in collaboration with OneDay and with the support of Meta. The survey involved more than 600 entrepreneurs, students, and workers aged between 18 and 35.
