LIM College, which is located in New York City and focused exclusively on the study of business and fashion, has received approval from the New York State Education Department to offer online versions of two of the College’s most in-demand graduate degree programs — the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Fashion Marketing and the MPS in Fashion Merchandising & Retail Management.

The two 30-credit MPS programs will launch in August 2016. Guided by expert faculty who bring decades of experience in the business of fashion to their virtual classrooms, these highly-focused courses of study will prepare students to be competitive in the $2 trillion global fashion industry.

These master’s degree programs will bring LIM’s signature New York City-centric point of view to the distance learner, with access to industry leaders through webinars, media-rich classroom content, one-on-one attention from faculty as well as a personal success coach, and the option to experience LIM and the New York City fashion world firsthand via a week-long immersion program.

Students will have access to LIM’s acclaimed CEO Speaker Series, “virtual” fashion field trips, professional association meetings, alumni and industry networking opportunities, and career development services. When possible, students will also be paired with industry professionals for mentoring.

Says LIM College President Elizabeth S. Marcuse, “Just because you choose to learn at a distance doesn’t mean that you should be disconnected. LIM College’s online programs are designed to bring the world-class LIM College experience to learners wherever they are located.”

Recognizing the value of access to one of the world capitals of fashion, LIM will offer an optional weeklong New York City immersion program specifically for online students. It will include visits to showrooms, the Fifth Avenue shopping district, the Garment District, emerging fashion production sites in Brooklyn, and fashion industry events. Participants can stay at LIM’s residence hall on the Upper East Side of Manhattan during their time in New York.

With courses in cause marketing, global marketing, and luxury brand management, the online MPS in Fashion Marketing will teach students to learn how to build strong brands, discover worldwide trends, and influence ever-savvier and digitally-connected consumers. Graduates will be prepared to assume a variety of professional positions. A career progression for someone with this degree might start with a position at a large-scale retailer as a Loyalty Associate, then advance to the role of CRM Manager, then on to Creative Manager, progressing to Marketing Director, and ultimately possibly assuming the role of Chief Marketing Officer. The online MPS in Fashion Merchandising & Retail Management features courses in retail management, planning, allocation, and merchandising. Students will learn how to conduct business across the entire breadth of the fashion industry. One possible career path for a graduate of this program might be starting as an Assistant Buyer, becoming a Buyer, then a District Merchandising Manager, on to General Merchandising Manager, with the possibility of eventually becoming an Executive Vice President.

New students will be able to enroll at six times each year. Full-time students will complete the programs in three semesters throughout one calendar year. Part-time students will be able to complete their degree at a pace that meets their individual lifestyle needs.

According to President Marcuse, “These new online programs represent a logical evolution for LIM College. With over 75 years of experience, we are the recognized leader in fashion business education. Now, we are extending the reach of our expert faculty to wherever a student is located and at whatever time is right for them. Our goal is to provide our students, wherever they may be, with practical and theoretical knowledge that will prepare them to meet the demands of the fashion industry today, tomorrow, and well into the future.”
