The Amsterdam Fashion Academy is a private international fashion school situated in the heart of Amsterdam; this state-of the-art academy has become a hub of student-centred learning with a high level of personal attention while also focusing on graduate employability. The Amsterdam Fashion Academy prides itself on being a, small and personal fashion school putting quality before quantity. It concentrates on student-centred learning and a high level of teacher contact. It has modern facilities all housed in one building which helps create a more friendly and informal atmosphere where students can get to know each other better and inspire each other.
Accreditation
The Amsterdam Fashion Academy offers university awarded British Bachelor’s Honours degree programmes. All courses are taught in English including the Fashion with Textiles Design BA and Fashion Business BA which are validated by Bucks New University. This also means the degrees are aligned with the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) standards.

Who we are as boutique academy is not a marketing ploy, but an integral part of our vision. Our educational vision focuses on those students who do not feel at home in regular ‘mass’ education. The Amsterdam Fashion Academy is a unique, boutique academy: a veritable Valhalla for fashion mavericks. This small and intimate academy only has a limited number of places making each one precious. This means that those who study here are highly motivated and eager to liberate and develop their creative spirit.
We have the highest quality of teaching staff who flourish in the informal and friendly atmosphere along with being given the time and space needed to nurture individual talent and creativity. They get the most out of students not just thanks to their knowledge and enthusiasm but by making learning personal and bespoke. There is a maximum intake of 10-14 students per year per course.
Facts & Figures
Amsterdam Fashion Academy first opened its doors to students in 2013. It is privately-funded with in 2017, 75 full-time students accounting for 90% of its income and 50 part-time students for the other 10%. Between 2014-2017 there have been 160 students attending short, part-time and summer school courses. 27% of students are Dutch with 73% being international, coming from 16 different countries. All courses are given in English. The student – teacher ratio is 6 – 1 this underpins the academy’s small-scale and individualistic approach to education and is considerably lower than in subsidised education. It is the only educational facility in the Netherlands where you can obtain a university degree in fashion (Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree).
This intensive foundation year at the Amsterdam Fashion Academy gives you a solid start for any prospective study or career in fashion. You will discover and improve your creative skills as well as having the opportunity to explore different creative areas of the fashion industry. You will learn through discovery and exploration through project work, lectures and study visits. The program is designed to give you a visual portfolio in the field of fashion and the knowledge you need to be able to progress to follow a fashion related degree.
Course overview
This is a great opportunity to study a wide range of essential skills needed for the design and production of both fashion and textiles in the stimulating fashion environment of the Amsterdam Fashion Academy. You develop your portfolio and gain a real understanding of the professional working practices and expectations of the fashion industry.
All topics include an element of theory to underpin the creative process and is delivered through a range of different teaching styles, including lectures, creative workshops and seminars. You will start to focus on developing your own personal creative signature within the fashion environment.

How do you study?
You are taught by a range of experienced tutors who are enthusiastic and dedicated to bringing out the best in you. Our teaching staff works with you on sustained project work which develops your skills and they are happy to share their theoretical knowledge with you. Industry workshops, lectures, live projects, field trips and visits are all part of the program. You work on a variety of technical and design projects that involve research, including exhibition and museum visits, design development, garment making, fashion illustration and presentation. This one year program helps you compile a portfolio for application to a degree program in Fashion Design.
What can you do after the program?
After completing this program you can progress on to study Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Retail, Fashion Communication, Journalism and Textiles Design at degree level.

This University awarded bachelor degree program Fashion Business is for students who aspire to work in the fields of; Marketing, Branding, Communication and PR, Trend & Prediction and Fashion Editorial Styling. It is a multi-disciplinary program for dynamic individuals who wish to enhance both their creative and academic skills within the world of fashion. Through a combination of theory and hands-on practice, the program turns students into professionals who understand the language and rules of the fashion system.

The Fashion Business BA (Hons) program has been developed to give you international skills, knowledge and practice within fashion and lifestyle industries. The aim is to help you become a true independent business thinker who can work at any level from luxury to mass market. You will gain a solid understanding of the theoretical elements of business and you will be able to put this into practice through practical application processes.
The course is taught through a series of projects including practical skills in fashion business with an emphasis on fashion (international) marketing, communication, branding and editorial styling. This is supported by critical and theoretical study delivered through different teaching styles including lectures, seminars and creative workshops. Our small class sizes ensure you will have regular one to one contact with teaching staff, who also have more time to help you develop as an individual and help you produce innovative solutions to your assignment briefs.

The University awarded bachelor degree program Fashion with Textiles Design is aimed at students who intend to pursue careers as Fashion and/or Textiles Designers and involves both conceptual and trend driven design work through experimentation with creative cutting techniques, traditional pattern cutting, textiles, research, illustration, business and manufacturing skills and culminates in a final professional collection show and portfolio outcome exhibition.
Course overview
The UK fashion industry alone consists of over 800,000 people. This program will provide you with the skills you need to get on in this exciting and lucrative industry. The Fashion with Textiles Design BA (Hons) offers you a nurturing environment where you will develop industry standard skills in both fashion and textiles. You will expand your skills in pattern cutting, production techniques, CAD and design. We will give you what you need to set you on your way to become an independent creative thinker who can come up with innovative solutions in an ever evolving industry.
The course is taught through a series of practical project assignments, with key emphasis on quality of products and innovative design. The practical modules are delivered through a variety of workshops, demonstrations, lectures and seminars, but the most important aspect of this program is that you become an individual designer. Thanks to our small classes and commitment we can achieve this together by providing each individual student with one to one tuition time every week.

Major Consultancy project – Strategic direction
The consultancy project will provide an opportunity to put into practice all that has been learnt within the previous MSc modules. This project will be developed relevant to experience gained with the placement organisation. The project will include the in-depth exploration of a business issue from multiple perspectives. Recommendations will be made derived from previously learned theories, concepts, tools and frameworks including multi-cultural teamwork and presentation skills developed through group-work.
