André Courrèges, born 1923, worked for Balenciaga for ten years before he established his namesake brand in 1961. His Spring collection of 1964 showed radically different clothes, including angular mini dresses and trouser suits. Courrèges soon became legendary for his distinct look, even claiming to have invented the miniskirt. 2011 saw the house revived by Jacques Bungert and Frédéric Torloting, who have since excelled at offering modern updates on Courrèges classics.
