Those with ambitions to become a fashion designer could already study at one of Antwerp’s art schools, but from this summer onwards the Belgian city will also be catering to those aspiring to explore the business side of the industry. The Antwerp Management School (AMS) announced that august 2018 will see the start of the new Master Fashion Management.
Undeniably linked to fashion
Ever since the birth of the ‘’Antwerp Six’’ (i.e. a collective of fashion designers from Antwerp, consisting of designers such as Dries van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester) the city has become undeniably linked to fashion. Yet, the world of fashion is an ever changing one, and to make it you will need more than just one clever idea. “You have to possess knowledge on matters such as global and local markets, consumer insight, expertise in business models and intellectual property, as well as management skills related to organisations, finance and logistics,” explains AMS in newspaper ‘’De Standaard’’.
The master in Fashion Management is completely taught in English and will run from August 2018 - August 2019. The programme’s main aim is to prepare students for a career as a manager in the international fashion industry. During the first semester students will take courses in Antwerp, after which they will continue their studies abroad. The tuition fee is €19.000, and the deadline to apply is 15 August for EU-citizens and 1 June for non-EU citizens.
