With the festive season just around the corner, everyone has begun to think about what to wear for the many dinners and parties lined up. In addition to being the time for the best parties, the holidays tend to evoke the wish to do something good for others. Tapping into this sentiment, students from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York have organized the third edition of the clothing pop-up store whose proceeds will be donated to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Center.Students from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York have thus organized the third edition of the clothing pop-up store whose proceeds will be donated to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Center.

The pop-up shop will be filled with designer clothing for men and women from brands such as Chanel, Manolo Blahnik, Stuart Weitzman and Burberry, which have been donated from the Society Boutique, the high-end second hand shop from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Center.

The theme for this year´s pop-up is Holiday Road Trip, and students from FIT´s Visual Presentation and Exhibition Design (VPED) programme were responsible for the store´s design. “I was thinking of a tropical pop-up shop, and Corinne was thinking of a trailer park theme,” said Aubrie Kish, who came up with the theme in collaboration with her classmate Corinne Spano. “But we wanted to make it family-oriented, so we came up with the road trip concept.” Anne Kong, associate professor within the VPED programme, is also enthusiastic about the theme: “I think this year´s concept is incredibly original, and I think it will resonate because so many of us get on the road for the holidays. It´s something we all have in common. Hopefully it will make people think about giving.”

Besides raising money for charity, the pop-up shop also serves as a great way to learn for the students who are involved in the organisation. From the decor to the displays: everything has been created by students. Students were divided in teams that were assigned responsibility for different areas, including graphic identity, fixtures and floor plan, entranceway and window and back wall graphics.

The pop-up shop, which is located in the Pomerantz Lobby, is open from 10 am to 7 pm from November 16 to November 20. FIT has been organising yearly pop-up shops since two years ago. The previous editions raised a total of 60.000 dollars (39.470 pounds).
