All fashion students dream of having their work featured in a renowned fashion magazine at some point. For nine Fashion Illustration undergraduate students from London College of Fashion (LCF) this dream has become a reality, as the school has partnered with London-based fashion magazine Dash. The magazine has partnered with LCF for their Gender/No Gender campaign, which discusses gender and sexuality through illustrations.

Every week one illustration by one of the LCF students will be showcased on Dash´s website, accompanied by a short explanation on the illustration´s meaning. The students featured so far include Dominika Drotos, Federica Micheli, Josie Payne, Kit Skellington, Robson Stannard, Xiuching Tsay, Jessie Gardiner. This week´s spotlight is aimed at Amie Twiner, and next week it will be Abi Jackson´s turn. The series of illustrations will be closed with an illustration from course leader Sue Dray.

“Gender is on everyone´s lips at the moment, which raises awareness for the issues connected to this topic, but I feel many questions are unanswered still,” says Dash´s editor-in-chief NoéMie Schwaller. “BA Fashion Illustration course leader Sue Dray and I came up with a project for the students. I was curious to see how young talents from LCF understand the topic and interpret or express it through illustration.”

The illustration that is featured on Dash´s website this week was made by Twiner, who says the following about her work: “My illustration is of Ruby Rose, surrounded by words that relate to the transgender topic people may feel or have to deal with. My message I am portraying is: No matter how you choose to look, what gender you are or want to be, everyone is the same on the inside, so we should not judge or discriminate that about anyone.”

Dash was founded in 2012 as part of Schwaller´s final project at the Masters in Fashion Journalism at LCF. According to the fashion journalist, the world lacked a magazine which featured many illustrations. The magazine is published biannually, and has a circulation of 75.000.
