Istituto Modartech is an Italian higher academic training center in the Fashion and Communication fields based in Pontedera, Italy. The values of the teaching methods are based on craftsmanship, technique, technology, and sustainable innovation. FashionUnited recently spoke to Elisa Castagna, International Marketing Manager at Istituto Modartech to discuss the type of courses the college offers, the impact of Covid-19, and the future plans of the institute.

How has the transition from in-house to remote learning been for the school and students?

Starting from the first days after the onset of the pandemic, in March 2020, Istituto Modartech has worked hard to allow its students to continue studying safely from home. After just one week we started offering online lessons so that students were able to successfully finish their courses by the end of the academic year. Teachers, students, and staff shared a deep sense of community to keep up with set educational goals. Today we offer a winning formula of blended training: on-campus lessons for practical labs/ workshops and to take advantage of a personal relationship with teachers and school friends, combined with online lessons when it comes to more theoretical lessons.

How would you describe the Istituto Modartech student community?

At Istituto Modartech the student community is made of more or less 300 students, coming from different parts of Italy and abroad. The Institute has deep roots in Tuscany and in its unique territory: being an Italian fashion school, the values of its teaching methods are based on heritage, craftsmanship, technology, and sustainable innovation. These values are daily shared with students, with the aim to create future professionals able to promote innovation while respecting the uniqueness of Made in Italy. Students are guided to discover their talents and to grow personally and professionally; relations between students and teachers are strong and friendly in respect of the diversity of each one. After graduation, students join the Alumni community, to stay connected with the Institute and receive career development support.

What kind of courses does Istituto Modartech offer? What is the focus area?

Istituto Modartech provides training in 2 main areas: Fashion Design and Communication. In addition to the 2 bachelor’s degrees in Fashion Design and Communication Design, the Institute offers courses legally recognized at the European level (EQF standard) on campus and online programs as a response to specific needs, aptitudes and goals. Every year in July the Institute also offers Summer courses, 2-week courses for a first approach to the world of Italian Fashion.

What do we need to know about Istituto Modartech?

Istituto Modartech can rely on a strong network of partner companies; its strength is the teaching staff made of professionals who are daily connected with the business world. The training solutions and the academic activities are cut on the most requested profiles on the market, putting the passion, the aptitudes, and the growth of each student at the center of it all.

What are the plans for this year? Any new things coming up?

For this year we have increased our online courses, offering a new range of programs, both in Fashion and Communication. In addition to that, we have just launched our new website, changing the outward appearance of it.

Do you have any tips for future students who want to study at Istituto Modartech?

Believe in yourself, stay focused on your passions, allow yourself to make errors, and to experience different ways of thinking. Creativity has to be nurtured with curiosity, hard work, and research. Teachers and staff will be at your side supporting you from the very first day till graduation. Studying in Italy and especially in Tuscany, at the heart of one of the most important Fashion Districts in Italy, is really a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Get ready to enjoy it and you will not regret it.
