Fashion School Q&A: LCI Barcelona

LCI Barcelona was established in 2013 after the association between LCI Education and the Felicidad Dulce Fashion School. LCI Barcelona is a referent in the field of education in design, animation, photography and management of creative industries. FashionUnited spoke with academic director Rubén Monmany about the institute’s future plans, courses, and community.

How is everything going at LCI Barcelona? Are the physical classes back?

Since the beginning of the academic year, the day to day at LCI Barcelona is very similar to before the pandemic. Common spaces such as the library and study halls are being fully used again. Only the programs and content that were designed to be taught online, are still in an online format.

Of course, measures to control and prevent the spread of infections are still in place, such as mandatory mask use. These measures have proven to be very effective.

How would you describe the student community at LCI Barcelona?

Students at LCI Barcelona are curious and critical individuals, something that characterises people from their generation. Experiential and cross-cultural learning excites them and they are keen to explore their own paths in the development of their professional careers. Clearly, multiple lockdowns have left their mark on students but they keep pushing to find a space they can occupy in the professional world.

What type of courses does LCI Barcelona offer? What is the key subject area?

At LCI Barcelona we develop both technical courses and creative courses. Through our own Design Thinking processes, we invite students to discover their own paths. The project constitutes the backbone of their learning as well as the space where they can develop skills specific to their subject area, and the cross-cultural competences that characterise modern-day designers.

At the same time, the study program promotes the hybridisation between the different academic disciplines, generating interesting synergies and teamwork between designers, photographers, illustrators, …

What do we need to know about LCI Barcelona?

LCI Barcelona is part of LCI Education, an international education network consisting of 23 campuses spread across 5 continents, and with its headquarters in Montreal, Canada. Founded in 2013 after the association between LCI Education and the Escuela de Moda Felicidad Dulce (Felicidad Dulce Fashion School), LCI Barcelona is a referent in the field of education in design, animation, photography and creative industry management, and year after year attracts students from all over the world who want to become competitive professionals.

What are the university’s plans for this academic year? Any new things coming up?

This academic year we intend to resume activity from pre-pandemic times, but without forgetting what we learned through online working methods.

We have strengthened relations between the different campuses of the LCI Network, allowing us to share experiences, methodologies and resources, which all contributes to an improved quality of our academics.

We also have a new call for Online Masters ready for March 2022. With an international staff and live classes, we bring the LCI experience closer to any corner of the world. We offer the possibility to share one’s experience with professionals of reference in the sector and we employ all of the technological and methodological know-how of the past two years.

Do you have any tips for future students who would like to study at LCI Barcelona?

First of all, we invite them to get to know the school when they visit LCI Barcelona and this way discover if our program is a good fit for them.

Secondly, it’s important that they develop their curiosity, creativity and their critical thinking. These skills will definitely help them develop their career and are a great starting point for studies in design.
