French Fashion Schools: What are the new training courses for professionals in 2022-23?

The needs of employers and students are changing and with them the paths leading to diplomas. FashionUnited takes a look at some of the new courses offered by fashion schools in France for 2022 and the start of the 2022/23 school year.

Upcycling training at Plateau Fertile

In Roubaix, Plateau Fertile, an organisation that welcomes project leaders and companies, is adding a new upcycling training course to its program. This new segment includes two courses to choose from: upcycling project manager (20 days, 300 euros per day) and upcycling couture (30 days of training, free for students). Soon in Paris, the organisation will also offer its range of training courses in the capital from September 2022, the scheduled opening date.

A new preparation at the Institut Français de la Mode

The Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) is launching a preparation course for fashion design studies in 2022. It is more specifically a cycle of intensive internships for final year students or students in the first year of their studies, as well as young people who wish to undertake fashion studies. The presentation brochure indicates that “the objective is to prepare them for the entrance examinations of Bachelor programs in Fashion Design, including that of the French Institute of Fashion.” Applications will open at the end of January 2022 and the first internship will take place from August 29 to September 2, 2022. A program follow-up certificate will be given to each participant.

Four new training courses at Chardon Savard

The Parisian school of fashion and styling Chardon Savard has planned to offer four new courses for the year 2022/2023: Bachelor in Fashion Communication (three years), Bachelor in Photo Stylist (three years), Master in Ethical Fashion Management (two years) as well as a short Fashion Influencer course (200 hours, Saturday and evening classes).

A Fashion Profession CAP in a new school in Marseille

In Marseille, a fashion school opened in January 2022: Fask Academy – resulting from the association FASK (FAshion SKills) created in early 2019. The school is aimed at young people aged 15 to 18 and presents itself as a production school in textile manufacturing. The training concerns the Fashion Professions CAP (Certificat d'Aptitudes Professionelles), a French diploma, in learning about tailored clothing. Each course is made up of 12 students and the courses alternate between theory (10h/week) and practice (25h/week).

Four new training courses at Lisaa

In 2022, Lisaa, (The Higher Institute of Applied Arts) is adding four new courses to its program. A Bachelor in Fashion Business, a Master in International Artistic Director (in English and with a second year at NABA University, Milan), a Master in International Fashion Marketing (in English with a second year at Regent's University, London) and a Master in Fashion and Luxury Business which includes a specialisation in the following during the second year: retail purchasing and merchandising (work-study).

Online training at L'École Casa

In Paris, L'École Casa, free and without prerequisites, has set up a new three-month online training course for 18-25-year-olds living in Île-de-France and it is entitled pre-casa training, its first course will begin in September 2022. This is the first time that the school has set up online training. An email via the school explains this choice by the desire to benefit "as many people as possible in [their] training." The organisation does not have the means to accommodate more than twenty trainees on its premises. "This three-month training is intended to give the tools to create creative content as well as supporting them in the preparation of an application file for a fashion or artistic creation school/training.”

More new training courses:

  • The National Federation of Clothing (FNH), employers' union of independent clothing and textile traders, is working on new training courses on its social networks.
  • The new EPICC school, opened in 2021, is an industrial production school for sewing and clothing that offers two-year training courses.
  • The Institut National des Métiers d'Art is launching the second edition of the program "Emerge and Sell Thanks to Digital Technology", for companies in the Île-de-France region created before August 2020 in the sector of Crafts, Fashion and Design (from February to June 2022 in Paris).
  • In 2021, Paris School of Luxury opened a two-year course on Sustainable Luxury: Fashion and Beauty, it is accessible to students from a three-year university degree and to professionals.
