Second-year students of the Fashion Design course at the IED of Rome collaborated with the Albini Group to create a capsule collection to support young designers in their professional career. The collections, called "Amabili resti" and "Ethereal heavy soul", were created with just two fabrics, poplin and cotton gabardine, and two colours - white and navy blue.

"Amabili Resti", designed by the students Laura Finizio, Giulia Gagliardi, Ida Paliotta, Eugenio Speranza and John Rey Tiva. According to a press release this collection is a tribute to the spontaneous force of nature and its ability to be continually reborn and regain possession of the spaces it has been deprived of. "Ethereal heavy Soul', on the other hand, tells of the desire of its creators, Nicolò Artibani, Floriana Carannante, Maria Giuseppina Cuguttu, Eleonora Pignata and Gianluca Zumbolo, to distort the silhouette of a garment with gathers, excess fabric and pleats, without reducing its practicality.

The partnership started with a series of educational meetings aimed at conveying and helping students understand the dynamics and phases that precede the creation of a fabric. From the analysis of the key aspects of the production process, to the study of the fabric itself, its characteristics and its potential, in order to be able to enhance it at its best once it becomes a collection.

"We want to support and encourage young talents to pursue their personal and professional goals. Thanks to the partnership between Albini and IED, the students have been able to get hands-on experience of all aspects of the product, deepening the know-how, innovation and style behind a garment, starting from the research on the fabric. I am sure that this experience will be very useful for their professional growth and for us it is a precious moment of confrontation with young designers, capable of enriching us with new points of view and surprising inspirations,” said Gabriele Camozzi, Head of Marketing at Albini Group.

"Our aim is to show that in creative processes limits can be converted into opportunities for experimentation, so that with poplin you can create much more than a shirt and this is the challenge we proposed to our students. The objective of going beyond the limits but respecting Albini's identity, gave life to "Amabili resti" and "Ethereal heavy soul", two sartorial capsule collections made with just two fabrics - poplin and cotton gabardine - and just two colours - white and navy blue,” said Paola Pattacini, Coordinator at IED Moda Roma.

The garments made by the IED students are on display in the Albini Showroom in Milan until 20 December 2021.
