Graduates from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, one of the Netherlands’ most prestigious fine arts institutions, showcased their latest collections on 25 June as part of the school's Fashion Show 2021.
This year, the show was a multidisciplinary group presentation on location. In small groups, visitors were introduced to the various projects and designers. The audience became part of the show through a series of performative elements and interactions.
The show featured the work of this year's fashion graduates: Bonnie Ogylvie, Chiara Frenzel, Emilia Christina Honnebier, Emma Lou Burkel, Karly Gerharts (Limo Hair), Malgorzata (Gosha) Woch, Millie Honnebier, Riun Jo and Roxane Mbanga.
Niels Klavers, head of the fashion department, stated: "For the second year in a row, our students have had to study, and graduate, in challenging conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of this has not escaped any of us. However, clear signals of changing attitudes and ambitions, and advancing insights about our education, had long convinced us to embark on an experimental path before the virus brought everything to an abrupt halt. Today we are seeing the first results of these changes, which will hopefully lead to new ways of doing 'fashion', to enrich the position of 'fashion' in our culture."
